Research Interests

  • Syntax: how we can model the relation between strings of words and their meanings. The syntactic systems of different languages.

The full text (in postscript format) of my thesis "Dynamic syntax" is available.

  • The automatic extraction of linguistically useful information from language corpora. Word frequencies, collocations and word senses.

  • Probabilistic parsing. Combining the two above. Particularly the construction of a language model which predicts the likelihood of a particular sequence of words

Projects

Since September 1999 I have been working on the WASPS project at ITRI.
